1974 - Stevie Wonder Recovers



Barry Mannilow's career got a kick-start in 1974 with "Mandy", which became a number #1 hit and million dollar seller.  Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" and "Higher Ground" from '73 got great airplay, especially after Wonder's near-death automobile accident in late 1973.  Joni Mitchell had two huge hits in 1974 with "Free Man in Paris" and "Help Me".  Lynard Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama" kept rock fans happy with yet another big hit!  Country Rock became even mopre popular with hits by Kenny Rogers, Charlie Rich (had 6 hits on the charts in 1974), Dolly Parton, The Osmonds and many others.


Important Fact:  Dick Clark launched the American Music Awards in 1974!


The Rolling Stone named 500 of the greatest songs of all time.  6 songs made the cut in 1974!
