1962 - Doing the "Locomotion"

The dance craze continued in 1962.  Teenagers scrambled to get in front of the TV to watch American Bandstand and to listen to rock on the radio.  Although the definition of "rock" was unclear, the supposed "fad" was not going away.  Patsy Cline was the #1 female again in 1962.  Although Ray Charles had been caught with drugs, he continued to roll out hits with "I Can't Stop Loving You" in 1962.  Little Eva hit it big with "The Loco-Motion".

Important Fact:  Little Eva was only 16 when Loco-Motion hit #1.  She was the babysitter for songwriters, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, and they asked her to record their song.

The Rolling Stone named 500 of the greatest songs of all time.  Only 6 songs made the cut in 1962!

181            Green Onions - Booker T. and The MGs

161            I Can't Stop Loving You - Ray Charles

263            He's a Rebel - The Crystals

113            Up On The Roof - The Drifters

218            Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker
