Business Spotlight - School Board Recognition Month

School Board Recognition Month

Cadiz, Ky--January is School Board Recognition Month in Kentucky, and Trigg County Public Schools joins the numerous districts across the state in gratefully acknowledging local board members’ dedication to both schools and the community.

These community leaders are challenged with complex and demanding tasks which have significant implications for our school systems. This month is dedicated to thanking these important elected officials for the role they play in the education of children.  Their decisions are ones which shape the future of the region.

Mike Davis, JoAlyce Harper, Shelia Martin, LaVern Baker and Sharon Simmons tirelessly sift through test scores, monitor achievement gaps, ensure that teachers are seeking meaningful professional development, oversee school facilities and deal with issues which arise without warning. As is evidenced here, the job requires much more than simply showing up to meetings.

With their efforts to set district policy and prioritize spending, the board has a direct impact on students’ abilities to learn, achieve, and succeed upon graduation.  Certainly, this is a powerful motivator for these capable individuals.

Our community is fortunate to have these individuals on the Trigg County Board of Education looking out for its children, doing a job that is far more involved than most people realize.  As they face this year of uncertainties, these board members deserve our support not only during School Board Recognition Month, but throughout 2012.
