1976 - Paul Simon Gives us "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover"

Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" brought a whole new style of music and added some fun to the lineup.  Peter Frampton, who was broke and desperate put together an album, "Frampton Comes Alive", which sold over 13 million copies and was the biggest double album to that time.  It was #1 for 17 weeks with hits such as "Show Me The Way" and "Baby, I Love Your Way".  Kiss, known as a "gimmick" band for their outlandish makeup and dress, had their first big hit, "Beth".  Ironically, only one band member showed up to cut the record, so he did it was an orchestra and choir.  Thanks to Donna Summer, the disco explosion was on the launching pad with her release of "Love To Love You, Baby".  Speaking of disco, "Disco Lady" was the #1 song for 1976.

Important Fact:  The Recording Industry Association of America created the platinum awards for the first time ever for singles that sell more than two million copies and albums that sell one million copies.  The first platinum single was Johnnie Taylor's "Disco Lady" and the first platinum album was Eagle's "Greatest Hits 1971-1975".

The Rolling Stone named 500 of the greatest songs of all time.  8 songs made the cut in 1976!

336         Walk This Way - Aerosmith

397         (Don't Fear) The Reaper - The Blue Oyster Cult

500         More Than A Feeling - Boston

49           Hotel California - The Eagles

269         Road Runner - The Modern Lovers

92           Blitzkrieg Bop - The Ramones

499         The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy
